HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO TELL HOW MUCH DAMAGE A CAR HAS - "I'm not used to crashing. They're telling me to drive it and I was driving it but they didn"t realize how bad it was."

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 43 STP RETRO DODGE

ON DRIVING THE STP RETRO THEME CAR - "When I was 5 I had stickers all over my quarter midgets," Labonte said. "I thought that's all there was. I thought STP stood for super tonic Petty. To see the famous 43 with the red and blue colors would be really great."

CHEVROLETJIMMY JOHNSON, N. 48 LOWE'S CHEVOLET

ON THE SHAMU SEAWORLD THEME - "All kids love Shamu. I know I did growing up in San Diego. Now, I’ll be able to bring Shamu to the beaches of Daytona and hopefully introduce him to victory lane.”

A.J. FOYT IV, No. 38 GREAT CLIPS DODGE

HOW IS YOUR SEASON THUS FAR? - “Our season has gone pretty bad to start off with.  This weekend we have a new crew chief, our third crew chief of the year so being this early in the season that’s never that good.  We joined teams with Todd Braun now.  Everybody likes their cars different.  We brought a brand new car here and we’re just trying to figure it out.  We’re struggling.  Everything is so new right now and every crew chief likes their car a different way.  We’re just trying to get a good balance on this car and get qualified for the race.”

Jeff Burton, No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet

TAKING THE NO DENT, NO SCRATCH CAR TO TEXAS - “Well, we certainly can not revolve our entire company around one car, but it’s the car we’ve run the most and we’re the most comfortable with and know the most about. Until we can go to Charlotte and do some additional testing, it’s hard to go against that car. We have cars that, in the wind tunnel, actually look a little bit better than 164, but we’re comfortable with it and its run well everywhere we’ve been with it so we are going to keep taking it until we find something that is better. With the new testing schedule, it’s hard to find something better. The way it is working out we will take it to Texas, then the next big track will be the Charlotte test. We’ll have to decide whether to take 164 and another car, or to take two others cars – which we’ll probably end up doing to determine what to take there for the race. We can’t run one car on every mile-and-a-half and two-mile race track, we have to have more cars than that. Really, we need to be improving it. It’s a good car, but it needs to be better. We’ll keep working and try to refine it to run just a touch better, but we’ll also build new equipment as well.”
